Scavenged - Polly Hollyoak, Andrea Hughes and Olga Tsara
(3 - 14 April 2019 at Black Cat Gallery - Space 3, Melbourne, Australia)
Three artists, Polly Hollyoak, Andrea Hughes and Olga Tsara, explore common threads and influences in their work. Based on photo-derived imagery and found objects that are scavenged and appropriated from a variety of sources, their work makes political statements about art, consumerism, feminism and the human condition.
Hollyoak's powerful Pop paintings, Hughes' playful, irreverent assemblages, and Tsara's satirical and confounding collages, come together 'in conversation'. Each artist teases out ways of seeing another artist’s work, enabling broader statements and observations to be made about contemporary artists’ relationship with our image-saturated world.
